There was no cartoon bounce for Bush this week in the world of editorial cartoons, with cartoonists lampooning Bush as Richard Nixon, an idiot lifeguard, a bizarro-world train engineer, and, of course, a mini cowboy.
The top ten editorial cartoons of the week after the jump.
THE TOP TEN EDITORIAL CARTOONS OF THE WEEK
- Daryl Cagle, MSNBC, Guide to Iraq
File under sad but true. And don’t forget to read the upside-down answers.
- Town Called Dobson, Swift Goat-herders for Truth
From our own "Town Called Dobson," a hilarious take on Fox’s Obama swift-boating.
- Tom Tomorrow, This Modern World, "The Very Bad Idea, Part II"
Love the little Lieberman and McCain.
- V.C. Rogers, Independent Weekly, Iraq War Memorial
The war has to end before we get a memorial, but this is a fitting one for the decider.
- Mike Keefe, Denver Post, Non-bindling Resolution
Our brave Congress and their brand of kinda sorta courage.
- Mike Luckovich, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Pelosi's Congressional and Fashion Summaries
Nancy Pelosi versus the mainstream media. This is so damned true.
- Ben Stein, State of the Union
An accurate representation of the state of the union. I tuned in to the SOTU long enough to see W play "super-duper-swear-to-God-I'm-serious about the troops" right up until the applause for his seriousness, when he broke into a tell-tale frat-boy smile, soaking up the approbation, just like he does whenever he brings up 9/11. . . just one more reason Americans have come to loathe him.
- Matt Bors, Cleveland Free Times, "Workers Strike for Lower Wages"
I love when cartoonists follow Republican thinking to its illogical conclusion.
- Victor Harville, Stephens Media Group, "Howard Hunt"
I don’t much care for obituary cartoons, especially ones that show dead folks in heaven or hell–the one too sentimental and the other too vengeful–but this one made me chuckle.
- M.e Cohen, Politicalcartoons.com, "American Polls"
Our own William Hung in the oval office.
Honorable Mentions:
Clay Jones, Free Lance Star, "Democratic Response."
A special bonus for Jim Webb fans, and for anyone who thought that his SOTU response was the best ever given.
Boligan, El Universal, Mexico City, "Troop Surge."
Mike Lane, Cagle Cartoons. "Band-aid state of Union"
Mike Keefe, Denver Post, "State of the Union"
